Description
Introduction
A WFI (Water for Injection) generation plant is a specialized system that produces the highest purity grade of water used in the pharmaceutical industry. This water is critical for manufacturing injectable drugs, vaccines, and other sterile products because it must be virtually free of all impurities, especially bacterial endotoxins (pyrogens) and microorganisms, to ensure patient safety.
These plants typically use methods like multi-effect distillation or membrane-based systems (combining reverse osmosis, electrodeionization, and ultrafiltration) to purify water to the strict standards set by global pharmacopoeias. The entire system, from purification to storage and distribution, is designed to prevent recontamination and comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
